In 2011, Garrick Jacobi’s dad called him with a question.
“Do you want to invest in a franchise?” he asked.
Without hesitating, Garrick said yes, describing the move as a no-brainer. “I’ve always wanted to have my own business, even as a young child,” Garrick says. Going from his job as a pharmacy technician to a business owner was a dream come true for him.
When Garrick and his dad went into business together, the brand they invested in was EmbroidMe. Now, almost seven years later, after transitioning his store into Fully Promoted, Garrick is as thrilled as ever to own his own business. “I truly love what I do,” he says emphatically, adding, “Having the flexibility to make my own hours and do pretty much whatever I want is such a great feeling. I don’t think I could ever work for someone again.”
But owning a business hasn’t been without his challenges, and Garrick doesn’t sugar coat anything. He had to work hard when he got started, seeking out tools and education on what it takes to be a good business owner. Though he had some retail experience – specifically retail clothing sales in his rapidly growing hometown of Meridian, Idaho – he had a lot to learn about business ownership. Because of that, he spent a lot of time reading books, watching YouTube videos, and learning how to communicate effectively with his team to be the best owner he can possibly be.
That hard work has paid off. Garrick is most proud of his outstanding staff and the relationships that he has been able to build with his customers. “I have a really solid team that follows the systems I’ve put in place and understands my expectations,” he says. In fact, he attributes his success to these same systems and expectations: “Our top 20 customers have consistently been the same for eight years [which is] unheard of for most businesses in our industry…people buy from me because they like how I do business.”
Indeed, Garrick has enjoyed a level of success that has given him a sort of authority among his fellow franchisees. He often fields calls from other owners in the network who are looking for his feedback or guidance. His advice to franchisees is to follow the Fully Promoted system that they paid for to help things go more smoothly. Following the system, plus putting in the time and effort, has been crucial for his business.

In short, Garrick loves his life as a franchise owner, saying, “Owning this business has drastically changed my life, responsibilities, and goals…I make good money and get to do what I love.” It really doesn’t get any better than that.
